Patrick Burns - Conductor 2012
Patrick began his conducting studies whilst completing his under-graduate studies. He has been a member of the Symphony Australia conductor development program since 2007 which has seen him participate in workshops across Australia with Orchestra Victoria, the Adelaide, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and also in New Zealand with the Auckland Philharmonia under the guidance of Christopher Seaman, Johannes Fritzsch, Sebastian Lang-Lessing and Baldur Brönnimann.
Patrick was awarded the inaugural Australia Council Conducting Fellowship in 2007 which enabled him to work locally with the Queensland Youth Orchestras under the tutelage of John Curro. In the same year, he led the Queensland Wind Orchestra to win first place in the A Grade National Band Championships. Since 2008, Patrick has also been the chief conductor for the Ipswich City Orchestra in Queensland.
After returning from a year abroad travelling and studying in Germany in 2009, Patrick took up residence in Melbourne where he has recently completed his Masters of Music in Conducting under the guidance of John Hopkins. In 2010 and 2011 he was awarded the Ivy May Pendelbury Scholarship from Melbourne University.
Alongside being Music Director for Monash University Choral Society in 2011, Patrick has worked with the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Strings of Melbourne, Melbourne Opera Studio, Melbourne University Vocal Ensemble and conducted two charity concerts with Feature Set in support of Oz Child.
In 2012, Patrick continues his role of Music Director for the Monash University Choral Society and Chief Conductor of the Ipswich City Orchestra and has been newly appointed as the Director of Music for the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra.
