On This Earth We Dance!

Hello music lovers,

Our final concert of 2022 is here! It’s time for a last hurrah!

We are ending the season with a flourish, bringing you a very special program we proudly call On This Earth We Dance.

On This Earth We Dance is a statement, a celebration and a rallying call! For dance is our birthright, our connection to the earth and our humanity. It’s a way of responding to what’s happening in the world around us.

In this program we trace the music of dance from the polka, to Czech and Irish folk dances, to ballet and Broadway. We are pairing the music of dance from across cultures and time with brand new works that embody the contemporary spirit and the climate of our time to create a fuller, richer expression of the human experience.

Come reconnect with your physical being. Let your inner dancer soar 💃🏻

Let the familiar rhythms and sweeping harmonies take you somewhere.

Discover Your New Favourite Composer!

And an even bigger bonus, it will be the premiere event for three of our commissioned pieces. Discover your new favourite composers as we explore Minigames by Danna Yun, Henhouse by Juliana Kay, The Turning World by Alex Olijnyk and back by popular demand, Robert Mcintyre’s When Wind Washes Water Away.

The varied responses to and interpretation of our world through the eyes of these Melbourne composers are at once poignant and startling. If you attend only one concert this year, we think this is it!

But what if I want to dance to the music?

Yes, heed that call! Stamp your feet, jeté away, join us in making a joyful noise as we explore the fervour, flourish and flair of dance.

What if I hate dance?

Let us change your mind 😀 Seriously, there’s something for everyone. We are expanding the idea of dance. There are chickens doing chicken things, a dizzying foray into the turning world, a leap into the video game world and landing in each new level with Minigames.

The curation and juxtaposition of each piece against the next forms a tapestry of sound so rich and surprising that it’s got us buzzing and giggling in rehearsals. We're excited! We can’t wait!

You are in for a clucking good time!

See you there!
