Songs of Spring

Crafting a program that beautifully reflects the cycle of renewal and change, Songs of Spring is a celebration of new beginnings and the wonders of the natural world, honouring with it the loss and change necessary for new life to begin.

Specially for this program, we are proud to present the Australian premiere of Mālama from Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds by Michael Thomas-Foumai, as well as a very special performance of He Zhanhao's The Butterfly Lovers Concerto on guzheng, featuring our very own QiQi Lu.

You will hear the whispers of hope in birdsong, babbling brooks, the sounds of metamorphosis —both natural and mystical, ending with a call to protect the sacred cycle of birth and renewal in our natural world.

Prepare to be swept away by the lush melodies of Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, the expansiveness of Sibelius’ Spring Song, the evocative sounds of Ravel’s The Fairy Garden and Delius’ On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, as well as the life-changing experience of Stuart Greenbaum’s 90 Minutes Circling the Earth.
